In my career, I have been both an independent contractor, and a long term employee. I enjoyed all of the challenges and variety of experiences that these projects required. However, I am most passionate about my ActionScript development work. Major responsibilities include project lead on several developer teams, coordinating development schedules, meeting milestones, and working with large clients such as Target. I also have set up web and email servers while acting as webmaster, and worked with clients to produce a 50,000+ page web site focused on health care information co-sponsored by private and public funding sources.

Work History

ShopLocal LLC, Chicago, IL – August 2004 to December 2008 – Flash/Flex RIA Developer

ShopLocal is a comprehensive marketplace for multi-channel shopping and advertising. Work there involved two of the three main offerings of products; SmartCircular and SmartMedia. As one of the main developers for the Flash and Flex portions of SmartCircular, and SmartMedia, extensive experience was gained in interactive user experiences and displaying data in ways that is easy to understand and use for site visitors. SmartCircular examples can be viewed at many of ShopLocal’s client sites, Target, Staples, Best Buy, and more. SmartCircular is a product that translates the print version of advertising circulars into an easy to browse and value added web version. Worked extensively with the SmartCircular projects at ShopLocal. The SmartMedia offering of ShopLocal on the surface seem like normal banner ads, however, they are actually highly interactive and data driven. Work with SmartMedia was to not only create the ads, but also to streamline them so that they could be created by people not as fluent in Flash, yet still created rapidly and with a high level of quality.

  • In charge of implementing and deploying various client Flash application installations. Implementations have very quick turnaround times, for a large variety of clients.

  • Using Agile driven development, responsible for many Flash SmartCircular and SmartMedia enhancements and implementations.  Served as Scrum Master for several of these projects.

  • Worked heavily with large clients for custom Flash SmartCircular implementations.

  • Responsible for identifying and improving the implementation process.

  • Created utilities and documentation to aid in implementation and training.

  • Team of two to create the Target Christmas Toy Catalog. Short development time, and deadline driven.

  • Responsible for training new Flash designers in SmartCircular and SmartMedia products and practices.

Neumark, Lisle, IL – January 2001 to June 2001 – Web Designer/Developer

Worked on designing interface for CitiCorp’s state of New Mexico Time and Attendance Tracking system. This database-driven system provides the technology and infrastructure to collect, record, administer and manage time and attendance activities for work and educational programs supervised by the state.

Completed design and implementation of the Neumark Technology Group’s Internet and Intranet sites.

  • Reworked design for Internet site to incorporate new navigation structure and content.

  • Designed Intranet site using Visual InterDev and Flash to be more useful to consultants and office personnel.

  • Worked with Macromedia Flash and Generator to build Intranet site that will remain useful and upgradeable for several years.

Eastman Chemical Company, Kingsport, TN – October 1998 to June 1999 – Web Designer/Trainer

Created Intranet web sites and worked with a team to design and create for National Engineering Week ’99. Created Flash animations and a game for Helped to train existing staff in Photoshop, Flash, JavaScript, and HTML.

Spectrum Communications Inc., Elk Grove Village, IL – September 1997 to August 1998 – Webmaster/Web Designer/Web Developer/Database Developer

  • Designer of multiple websites for local area businesses, working directly with the client to establish the design and content.

Orbis Broadcast Group, Chicago, IL – January 1996 to August 1997 – Web Designer/Web Developer

  • Co-designer of “HealthAnswers.Com”, a health and medical website which has received national print, radio, and television attention, and is a candidate for the National Information Infrastructure Awards. The site contains over 50,000 pages of indexed content, sponsor pages, organization listings, and other medical information.

  • Managed several multi-media computer labs. Created and implemented schedules and lab policies. Facilitated professor’s questions and complaints.
